Boys Ranch to recognize 50-member graduating class

BOYS RANCH – The Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch community will graduate the 50 members of Boys Ranch High School’s Class of 2019 at 7 p.m. Friday with the annual baccalaureate service at Boys Ranch Chapel. The high school’s graduation ceremony will follow at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Ned. O. Miller Auditorium at the Dobkins Fine Arts Building. Both events will be available for viewing live via Boys Ranch’s Facebook page, facebook.com/calfarleysofficial.

The 2019 Boys Ranch High School valedictorian is Emily Morgan, 18. Emily is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randall Burks of Fritch, Texas. Following graduation, Emily plans to attend West Texas A&M University in Canyon and major in education.

This year’s salutatorian is Sara Jean Gilbert, 18. Gilbert is from Dallas, the daughter of Robert and Venessa Gilbert. Sara plans to also attend WTAMU and major in education.

“One of that many things I’ve grown to appreciate about Boys Ranch is that the most important part of a young person’s life is what happens after they leave Boys Ranch,” said Dan Adams, Boys Ranch president and CEO. “The story of Boys Ranch becomes even more clear through their lives as adults, and that is why we stay involved as long as we do.”

This large graduating class is culminating its high school career during the Boys Ranch’s 80th anniversary year.

“They will join a legacy of thousands of others who attribute their successes in life to what they learned through their relationships with us, while at Boys Ranch and after,” Adams said.

Boys Ranch Independent School District is one of six special-purpose school districts in Texas. The state legislature created BRISD in 1941 to address the unique educational and residential needs of Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch residents.
